1934 -
Michaels was among the first jewelry stores in the United States to expand into
china,sterling silver, and fine glassware.
1948 - Michaels'
"Treasure Chest Diamonds" were introduced and still remain the epitome of
diamond quality since the concept was originated.
1950 - Michaels'
line of superior watches under the Michaels brand made its
debut.
1957 - Michaels originated the "Bride's Own Room," a
concept imitated by jewelry stores nationwide.
1960 - Richard W.
Michaels earns the coveted Certified Gemologist title, the first jeweler so
recognized in Connecticut. Michaels has the only AGS Accredited Gem Laboratory
in Connecticut.
1974 - Michaels opens in
Connecticut's first regional mall, Westfarms.
1981 - Michaels
Foundation establishes The Michaels Jewelers Endowed Scholarship fund for eight
Connecticut students attending the University of Connecticut.
1984
- Michaels has the first Certified Gemologist Appraiser in the State of
Connecticut.
1988 - Michaels opens a store
in Guilford on the Green, June 18, 1988.
1997 - Michaels opens a
store in the Brass Mill Center after 54 years in downtown.
1999 -
Michaels' selection of colored gemstones and diamonds represents the largest
variety among stores in the state. It's Appraisal Department is one of the
largest ever operated by a Connecticut jeweler. |
